Yorkie Health Problems
By Joshua McNiel

Yorkies can be great pets, but just like all other dog breeds, they have their fair share of health issues. This article will you understand the common health issues associated with Yorkie dogs.

* Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, most commonly happens when Yorkies have too much time between meals. However, it can also be caused by stress, depression, fatigue, malnutrition, infections, bacteria, and even parasites. It is important to look for the signs of Hypoglycemia if you are a Yorkie owner. Some of the signs are drowsiness, red-eyed, and disorientation. If you see any of these signs you should take your Yorkie to the Veterinarian to be treated immediately. Hypoglycemia can cause brain damage, seizures, comas, and in some cases death.

* Being small can unfortunately cause problems with Yorkies. Small children running through the house may step on one, or just an object may fall over on them, and it doesn't take much weight to deal serious injury to a small Yorkie. Their bodies are so small that everything affects them more, even toxins, such as anti-freeze, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, and other household chemicals. Keeping a close eye on your Yorkie at all times is the best way to prevent them from getting into harmful toxins, or being injured.

* Tracheal collapse is a medical aliment occurring over time, which caused by the weakening of the walls of the trachea. Tracheal collapse is a common health problem in all small dog breeds. Tracheal Collapse can cause a Yorkie to whelp and cough. If you see these signs, you should take them to the Veterinarian. Sometimes, surgery can repair the trachea.

* Bladder stones are common

in Yorkies. They form in the urinary tract, and can cause the inability to urinate, and even death. Some signs of bladder stones in Yorkies are blood in their urine, and less frequent urinating. A simple x-ray can determine if their is a bladder stone there.

* Sensitive skin is another common issue among Yorkies. Many have allergies and will bite or scratch their skin, which leads to damaging their skin. A Veterinarian can suggest a type of lotion depending on you're Yorkies condition.

* Delicate digestive systems can cause Yorkies to have diarrhea and vomiting from diet changes or not eating the correct meals.
